Wynyard has been part of central Sydney life for generations. The area takes its name from General Edward Buckley Wynyard, a nineteenth-century British military officer who served in New South Wales. Before office towers filled the skyline, this part of the city was already busy with government buildings, businesses and people moving between the harbour and central Sydney.
Transport later became a defining part of Wynyard, NSW. Wynyard Station opened in 1932 as part of the Sydney Harbour Bridge rail project, giving city workers a major new connection between the CBD and the North Shore.
