At Flowers on Norton St, we take pride in delivering the freshest, highest-quality flowers to our customers. Sourced directly from the market three times a week—Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—our blooms are hand-selected through trusted relationships with growers to ensure premium quality and longevity.
Caring for Your Flowers
Proper care is key to maintaining the beauty and lifespan of your flowers. Please follow these guidelines:
- Unwrap and Prep: Upon receiving your flowers, remove any packaging and recut every stem at a 45-degree angle before placing them in a clean vase filled with fresh water.
- Water Matters: Flowers drink significant amounts of water—about ½ to ¾ of a vase daily. Check the water level daily, ensuring it’s no lower than 3 cm from the top, and replace it as needed.
- Positioning: Flowers are sensitive to their environment. Avoid placing them in areas exposed to direct sunlight, extreme drafts, or excessive heat. Do not leave them in a car or refrigerator, as such conditions can compromise their longevity.
- Wilting: If a flower wilts, it is likely dehydrated. Once a flower is removed from water or the water level in a vase drops below the bottom of a stem, the stem will immediately begin to seal over. Simply adding more water at this point will not be enough to rehydrate the flowers. To ensure they can take up water again, the stems need to be recut at a 45-degree angle before being placed back into water. This simple step is crucial for keeping your flowers hydrated and prolonging their beauty.
How long should my flowers last?
At flowers on Norton St we have a repetition based on the longevity of our flowers; people often tell us our flowers last so much longer that other florists. However, based on that we need to set the grounds for longevity as every flower has a varying shelf life. If you experience flowers that last longer than these guidelines it is congratulations to you - you have taken the upmost care with your beautiful blooms. At Flowers on Norton St we aim to exceed these guidelines with the finest of quality, but all we can guarantee is that the flowers will last until they pass as they are a natural product.
Expected Longevity of Flowers
The lifespan of flowers varies by type. While we strive to exceed expectations with our premium blooms, please note the following general guidelines:
- Soft-Stem Flowers: These delicate blooms, such as gardenias, dahlias, snapdragons, delphiniums, David Austin roses, garden roses, and hydrangeas etc., have a natural shelf life of 24–48 hours.
- Mixed Bouquets: These arrangements often include both soft-stem and longer-lasting flowers. As the softer flowers fade, remove them to enjoy the remaining blooms.
- Longer-Lasting Flowers: Sturdier flowers, including chrysanthemums, lilies, natives, lisianthus, alstroemeria, gladiolus, and Colombian roses, typically last 48–96 hours or longer.
Special Note on Packaging
At Flowers on Norton St, we provide a complimentary wet wrap (a damp cloth within a plastic sleeve) to keep your flowers hydrated during transit. However, this is only a temporary measure and is not a substitute for placing the flowers in water. Upon arrival, recut the stems and immediately transfer the flowers into a vase filled with fresh water.
Please remember wilted flowers are not old flowers, they are dehydrated as they are not drinking water and that is the importance of always recutting your flowers when they go into a vase.
Remember, flowers are a natural, perishable product. With proper care and attention, they will bring beauty and joy to your space for as long as nature allows.
