Breakfast Point is one of those places where the water is never far away. Walk through the suburb, and you'll pass marinas, riverside paths and people out enjoying the foreshore. It's hard to imagine that long before the apartments and landscaped streets arrived, this stretch of the Parramatta River played a small role in Sydney's earliest colonial history.
The suburb's unusual name comes from a visit by Governor Arthur Phillip, who reportedly stopped here for breakfast while travelling along the river. That story has stayed with the area ever since and is still part of the identity of Breakfast Point, NSW, today.
Most of the suburb as we know it now was built much more recently.
