Chester Hill nearly ended up with a completely different name. When the local railway station was being planned, resident H. A. McMillan first suggested “Hillcrest”. After that idea met resistance, “Hillchester” was put forward before the simpler name Chester Hill finally won local support. Before the railway brought new streets and shops, this land formed part of John Thomas Campbell’s large Campbell Hill estate.
